Durham Law school under a bright blue sky

Durham Law School is delighted to announce that Durham Law Careers Week, organised by Durham University’s Careers & Enterprise Service, was again a resounding success.

During or linked to Law Careers Week (week beginning 13th October) law firms offering more than 800 training contracts held in person events in Durham or attended in person the Law Careers Fair in Durham.

The law firms attending included:

  • 3 out of 5 of the magic circle law firms,
  • 7 other London headquartered international law firms,
  • more than 15 US headquartered international law firms with London offices, and
  • 10 law firms headquartered in the North East (or with offices in the North East).

The sponsor for the Law Careers Fair was leading international law firm Hogan Lovells. Representatives of more than 35 law firms were at stands at the Law Careers Fair held in the University’s Teaching and Learning Centre.

Simon Brandwood, Director of Careers & Enterprise, commented:

We are delighted with the feedback received following the Law Fair. Employers and students found the event to be insightful, informative and a great way to network for either the identification of top talent, or the opportunity to gain insight and access to the very best of Law firms. Over 1300 students attended and firms expressed pleasure in both the quality and calibre of our students”.

Ian Mak, Secretary to the Durham University student Law Society said:

"We had the pleasure of meeting many of our sponsors in person at the Law Fair and during our events and dinners throughout Durham Law Careers Week! A huge thank you to all of them for their incredible support of both the Durham Law Society and Durham Law School. We look forward to continuing to build on this success and helping even more students take the next step in their careers!"

Philip Bennett, the Law School’s Director of Employability and its first Professor in Practice, commented:

“Yet again, a tremendous turnout of law firms during Law Careers Week shows how attractive Durham graduates are to leading law firms in recruiting their future trainees.  A big thank you to Hogan Lovells for sponsoring the Law Careers Fair and to all of the other law firms who participated in Law Careers Week.  The churros stand provided by magic circle law firm, Linklaters (see picture), certainly attracted the students!  My congratulations to Simon Brandwood and his team for organising such a successful event.
