Course Choice

Chinese Language Courses: Nanjing University offers Chinese language courses for students of all levels: Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced. Before starting, students must take a Chinese proficiency test to determine their appropriate level. Based on the test results, students will be placed into different classes according to their proficiency. Students with no prior knowledge of Chinese are not required to take the test and can register directly for Elementary level courses.

English-taught Courses: English-taught courses are offered by various departments and faculties at Nanjing University. These courses are also available to exchange students. The course list varies each semester according to NJU's academic plan. Please refer to the Nanjing University website for the most up-to-date information: English-Taught Courses .

Chinese-taught Courses: Chinese-taught courses are also open to exchange students with permission from the professors. It is strongly recommended that only students with a very high level of Chinese language proficiency attend these courses.

Study Load

Exchange students are expected to take a minimum of 3 courses every semester.

  • Chinese Language Training Courses: No language requirements
  • Chinese-taught Content Courses: HSK 5
  • English-taught Content Courses: IELTS 6 / TOEFL 78 for students from non-English-native countries

How to Apply

Applicant Restrictions

According to current admission policy, applicants with Chinese Nationality are not allowed to apply as exchange students to study at NJU.

Other Information for Applicants

Accommodation

International students can stay in the international student dormitory on the Gulou campus or the dormitory on the Xianlin campus. You have to apply on-campus accommodation due to the limited spots of student dormitories.

Insurance

Exchange students must have comprehensive health insurance valid in China for enrollment as a full-time student at NJU. Since many insurance policies purchased outside China require substantial co-payments, have caps or exclude many illnesses, it is therefore urged that all incoming students should purchase a student health insurance when they do registration at NJU.

400 Yuan RMB/one semester, and 800 Yuan RMB/one academic year.

Fees & Expenses

Insurance: 800 Yuan RMB per academic year

Network fee: 20 Yuan RMB per month

Indoor swimming pool: 10 Yuan RMB per session, 500 Yuan RMB for half a year, 800 Yuan RMB per year.

Daily cost: Students are responsible for covering their own meals, medical expenses, school materials, holiday travel expenses, and additional costs for extracurricular experiments, fieldwork, and field trips.
