Juggling caring responsibilities with work and study can be a challenge. Caring for a child, disabled or elderly parents, or other adult dependent such as a family member or friend can take both a physical and emotional toll on the care giver. We encourage our staff and students with caring responsibilities to discuss their caring responsibilities, in confidence, with their line manager or someone in their College or Department to help identify areas of available support.

The staff or student carer may be living with the person they provide care for or have to travel away from Durham to attend to their caring responsibilities.
The film is based on interviews conducted on a London campus in Spring 2018. Drawing on the narratives of four women, the film provides a compelling and engaging account of academic carers’ experiences and of practices and policies in this area (‘what works?’). The film is the result of a close collaboration between Professor Marie-Pierre Moreau (Anglia Ruskin University, formerly based at the University of Roehampton) and film director Timur Bernard.
