On Wednesday 26th May, the Northern Power Inclusion Matters (https://northernpowerinclusion.org/) project hosted a one-day virtual workshop. The workshop was an informative day that had a range of speakers and interactive discussion sessions for HEI staff, industry professionals and Early Career Researchers. The workshop shared findings from the project’s EDI in STEM research, a keynote speech from Susan Johnson OBE, an interactive professional development session for ECRs with Simon Rees from Durham University’s DCAD department, a panel discussion, and a closing talk by Peter Caine from Stanley, Black and Decker.

Plenary SpeakerIndustry partner Peter Caine, Stanley Black & Decker talks about HEI and Industry – how collaborations are able to make a difference in increasing diversity, and a reflection on changing personal and organisational mindset through engagement in a programme like Northern Power Inclusion Matters.
The project has created a number of resources that provide best practice, lessons learned and information from the project that may support the implementation of similar interventions. The project produced a Toolkit with a how-to-guide of organising and implementing project activities like shared-characteristics mentoring, reciprocal mentoring and collaborating with industry.
