Key Contacts - LSO and DLSO

Ultimate responsibility for matters regarding the safeguarding of children at Durham University lies with the Lead Safeguarding Officer (LSO). The LSO is responsible for promoting and monitoring the Safeguarding Children policy and for making sure that University members are provided with relevant information, advice, and training.

The LSO establishes and maintains contact with the Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB), the Police and DBS, keeping confidential records of reported child abuse/harm cases, as necessary, in accordance with the Data Protection Act (1998).

The Deputy Lead Safeguarding Officer (DLSO) is the nominated deputy for the LSO and the operational lead for safeguarding in the University. The DLSO works closely with the Deputy Director of HR in the application of the Safeguarding Children policy to staff.

Safeguarding Operations Group

Durham University also has a dedicated Safeguarding Operations Group which meets regularly and is responsible for the delivery and implementation of the safeguarding children policy. Further information about the Safeguarding operations Group, including their Terms of Reference is available.
