MBA alumna Tariye Orianzi, recently named a UK 40 Under 40 winner, shares insights into her career shaping strategy, innovation, and sustainability at XEJet Limited.
As Technical Adviser to the CEO of XEJet Limited, MBA Alumna Tariye Orianzi plays a pivotal role at the heart of one of Africa’s emerging aviation companies. Her remit is broad and strategically significant: she has guided the airline through a major restructuring, overseen jet acquisitions, and contributed to defining the organisation’s commercial strategy. Her work also spans performance optimisation, pilot management, and financial alnalysis, all with a clear focus on strengthening customer satisfaction and loyalty.
This year, Tariye’s impact was recognised nationally as she was named a winner in the UK’s prestigious 40 Under 40 awards. The honour, she explains, is both deeply meaningful and motivating.
“Being named in the UK’s 40 Under 40 list is an incredible honour and a deeply humbling experience.” she reflects. “Personally, it’s a moment of reflection throughout my career journey. The recognition of the long hours, resilience, and passion that have fuelled my journey. It validates the sacrifices made along the way and reminds me of the importance of staying true to my purpose. Professionally, that’s a strong milestone; it reinforces the impact of the work I’ve done and serves as motivation to keep pushing boundaries.”
The transformative experience of completing her Durham MBA has been a key part of her journey. While the programme strengthened her technical and analytical skills, she says its true value went far beyond academic learning.
“My MBA gave me more than just business knowledge, it sharpened how I think and make decisions. It challenged me to step outside of my comfort zone, think more strategically, and see the bigger picture in every situation. What really set it apart was the mix of diverse perspectives I was exposed to. Collaborating with people from different industries and cultures pushed me to become a more adaptable and empathetic.”
For those contemplating an MBA themselves, Tariye has this advice.
“Be really clear on your “why.” An MBA is a big investment of time, energy, and money, so go into it with purpose. If you’re looking to change career paths and expand your network, it can be a powerful accelerator. But it’s not a magic shortcut; you’ll get out of it what you put in.
Also, don’t underestimate the value of the people around you. Some of the most important lessons come from conversations with classmates, not just case studies. Be open, be curious, and don’t just chase grades - chase growth. If it aligns with your goals, an MBA can genuinely shift the way you think, lead, and approach challenges.”
Looking ahead, Tariye is focusing her energy on driving innovation and sustainable progress within aviation and the wider space sector.
“Next, I’m focused on driving meaningful growth in the aviation and space sector. As the industry evolves, I’m particularly interested in how we can balance operational efficiency with environmental responsibility, whether that’s through smarter route planning, newer fuel-efficient aircraft, or exploring sustainable aviation fuel options.”
From reshaping airline operations to championing sustainability, Tariye Orianzi is demonstrating what it means to lead with vision, agility, and purpose - qualities that continue to define her rising impact in the global aviation landscape.
