When you accept a place at Durham University, you will be invited to complete enrolment and registration. During busy periods, it may take a couple of weeks for the Admissions Team to process your acceptance.  Once your acceptance is processed, two emails are sent to the personal email address you provided on your application. 

• One email contains your IT account username
• The second email explains how you derive your password
• The emails will be sent 24 hours apart, from no.reply@durham.ac.uk. 

Be sure to regularly check your junk folder for these emails.  

Once you receive both emails: 

• Visit our Change Password page and update your password
• Set up Multi Factor Authentication so that you can log into your University IT account.
• Log in to Banner Self Service to enrol with the University
• Complete online enrolment and upload a photo for your campus card as soon as possible 
• 'Confirm Enrolment' at the bottom of the page - sometimes this crucial step gets missed!

Make sure that your registered email address is up to date;  important information may be sent via email to your registered address in the next few weeks, before you have access to your university account. You should check your emails regularly in the coming weeks for important updates. 

COMPULSORY FOR ALL NEW STUDENTS : Durham University recognises the significant impact of all experiences of sexual violence and is committed to promoting a culture in which sexual violence is not tolerated and will be addressed. To achieve this, all members of our University have a responsibility for upholding the principles of dignity and respect.  Before the conclusion of Welcome and Orientation Week, all new students are therefore expected to complete the online course, 'Consent Matters; Boundaries, Respect and Positive Intervention', which is available on Oracle Learning before participation in College-based clubs, societies or committees, or activities with Experience Durham.   Access to Oracle Learning will be available to you upon completion of your University registration and you will also receive an email with a link to instructions on how to complete the course. 

During Welcome and Orientation Week, we will require you to confirm that you have, or will, complete this course. Questions about the course should be directed to the Student Support Office who will be happy to discuss the course with you.

All students are encouraged NOT to opt out of membership of the Middle Common Room (MCR).  

For NEW INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ONLY. The International Office organises a free coach transfer service as part of their 'Meet and Greet Service' on Wednesday 25 September or 26 September 2024. International students will need to book online to register for this service. If you have queries regarding visa applications, requirements or PBS checking, these should be directed to the International Office.

One of your top priorities is to register with doctors at a local medical practice so that you can access healthcare in Durham when you need it.  Your choice of medical practice will be determined by the area in which you live.  The practice area of the Claypath and University Medical Group covers the University and the Colleges. 

All new students can pre-register online with the Claypath and University Medical Group by completing the pre-registration online form.

The form asks whether you have an NHS number or not. You will only have a number if you have previously registered with a doctor in the UK, but you can still complete this online registration if you are an overseas student and don’t already have an NHS number.

Starting at Durham can be a busy and exciting time so, if you have a long-term medical condition and require medication, we recommend bringing sufficient medicines to last for the first couple of months of your time here.

Before coming to University we also recommend you ensure that your vaccinations are up to date. Please consult your current doctor to check if you have had vaccines for the infections below and, if you have not, arrange to receive them before coming to Durham.  If you are unable to receive any of these vaccinations before you arrive in Durham, register with a medical practice as soon as possible on arrival (see 'Essential Medical Information' above) and seek advice about accessing vaccinations.

Meningitis (MenACWY)
It is extremely important that all students have had a vaccination to prevent meningitis and septicaemia, which can be deadly.  Please ensure that you have received the MenACWY vaccine which is highly effective in preventing illness caused by the four meningococcal strains, including the Men W strain.

Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR)
In recent years there has been an increase in cases of measles and mumps in students at universities. Please check that you have had the necessary two doses of the combined MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccination.

Coronavirus (Covid-19)
You’re encouraged to make sure you are up to date with your Covid-19 vaccinations, an important measure to keep our community safe.

Please confirm your attendance at the Welcome Event and Formal Dinner on 27 September 2024 and the Postgraduate Group Photograph with College Officers. The deadline for booking is noon on 23 September 2024.  (Please note that there is no charge to you for the dinner). 

Please confirm your attendance at the Postgraduate Networking Evening on 26 September 2024. The deadline for booking is noon on 23 September 2024.  (Please note that there is no charge to you for the event).

Please confirm your attendance at the Postgraduate Post-Matriculation BBQ on 2 October 2024.  The deadline for booking is noon on 24 September 2024.  The Matriculation ceremony will be held in Durham Cathedral at 9.30am on Wednesday 2 October.  (Please note that there is not charge to you for the event).

Please confirm your attendance at the Postgraduate Welcome Brunch in Hatfield College Dining Hall on Saturday, 28 September 2024 from 11am. There are limited spots for this event. (There is no extra charge for this event.)

If you are setting up a student bank account, your bank may ask you for proof of study.  Please note that you will be able to  download this once you have access to University systems, from Banner Self-Service.
