The JCR (Junior Common Room) is the undergraduate community in John Snow College. Life at John Snow is lively and vibrant thanks to all the activities available through the JCR:  with sports teams, student societies and arts groups; there is something for everyone.

Our JCR work closely with College staff to ensure that our students have the opportunity to engage in a broad range of academic and recreational activities outside of the lecture and seminar rooms and is determined to provide the wider student experience to all our students. We hope you decide to join us at this exciting time in our College's development.

Getting involved in the JCR and student life in general is one of the most enjoyable aspects of being a member of John Snow College and the University. As well as being great fun and a great way to meet new people, it is also a great way to develop as a person and buid your CV.  The JCR is entirely self-governed, run by a committee of elected student officers.

JCR Levy

To operate, the JCR offers an optional, one-off payment that covers your entire time here at John Snow College. The JCR then reinvests all collected monies back into the Junior Common Room through event subsidies, resource refurbishment, or the development of services and provisions. Students typically find that the JCR Levy will have “paid for itself” after an academic year at John Snow College.

FOR 2025-2026 ACADEMIC YEAR, THE JCR LEVY WILL BE £160 FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS ON 3-4 YEAR COURSES, AND £40 FOR 1-YEAR POSTGRADUATE/EXCHANGE/ERASMUS STUDENTS
