St John's College is situated in the historic heart of Durham City, within a World Heritage site. Only a stone's throw away from Durham Cathedral, our College boasts a series of interconnected Georgian houses, as well as secluded gardens and lawns stretching down to the River Wear. All of our buildings and accommodation are located on this site within the Durham peninsula, on its main road called the Bailey.
A walk down the Bailey in one direction leads to a Georgian bridge over the River Wear, with idyllic footpaths leading to the University Library, Science Site, and Teaching and Learning Centre. Most academic departments and lecture halls are within a 15-minute walk from St John’s. In the other direction, the Bailey leads past the Cathedral and into Durham City within minutes, where there are many cafes, bars and shops.
