The College was saddened to hear of the death in December of Professor Ann Loades CBE who was an Honorary Professorial Fellow at St Chad’s and Professor Emerita of Divinity here at the University.
She was the first woman to be given a personal Chair in Durham (in 1995) and in 2001 was honoured with a CBE for services to Theology. She had significant involvement with the Arts and Humanities Research Board/Council 1999-2003 and was President of the Society for the Study of Theology for two years (2005-6).
She was one of the great supporters of the Recognised Colleges within the University and a constant voice of support for the importance of the work of Cranmer Hall.
The Principal writes, ‘I want to express my gratitude for Ann’s influence on my life, from the prophetic insights of her theological thinking to the way she was so kind to me in the early stages of my own theological career. Her passion for truth was worked out in a generosity of a vibrant and fully human person and she is for me one of the great modern theologians.’
Her funeral service will take place on Monday, the 9th of January, 2023 at 1.30 p.m. in St Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral, 1 The High Street, Dundee and streamed live at www.tinyurl.com/stpaulsdundee
