The College Mentor system is one of the many ways we support you to make the most of your time at Durham University. College Mentors are people local to the community, many of whom have worked at Durham University or are Durham University graduates themselves. College Mentors help first year students transition into university life, helping you to meet new people and get to know the region. They’re can signpost you to University services, introduce you to the local area and also promote the wider student experience at Durham University. Focus shifts during second and third year, as College Mentors help students set and meet goals, whether that be career related or socially related. They look forward to helping you with any questions you may have or pointing you in the right direction for any support or advice you may need.
Here about what some of our students want to say:
“What I most enjoy about the mentorship programme is that its a great way to meet john's students from other years. My mentor also organises really fun events which provide a fantastic opportunity to have a break from the course and meet others. My mentor also provides a listening ear in case I need advice or help with anything.”
“As an international student it has been great to have someone to turn to with questions about life in the UK or in Durham. I also got to meet John`s students from other years via my mentor group.”
“Having a college mentor is the best thing ever! They are incredibly supportive and their door is always open.
