Performing arts

St John’s has a flourishing performing arts scene, with opportunities to get involved in John’s Music Society and Bailey Theatre Company, the College’s resident performing arts societies. The College gardens, which boast an amphitheatre set into the peninsula riverbanks, come into their own in the summer months. Outdoor Shakespeare performances, live music on John’s Day and events like John’s Pride and Eco Festival fill the College’s lawns with celebration at the end of each year.

These groups are also student-led, creating chances to take part in the organisation and decision making that goes into running a successful ensemble, production, team or event.

University student
It was fantastic to be a part of the first ever John's musical. In 2022, John's Music Society and Bailey Theatre Company teamed up to produce the classic 'Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.' The production was created by John's students and students from across the university were involved in every aspect. With three sold out nights, and two glowing reviews, the show was a huge success and a great experience for everyone.
