At St John’s College, we care about your wellbeing and development. Your time at University is not only about gaining academic skills and knowledge but about growing as an independent learner. We are here to help build your capacity to navigate challenges both during your time at Durham, and in future, and engage successfully with your studies and with University life.
Staff in the Vice Principal’s Office provide dedicated support, advice and signposting to our undergraduate and postgraduate students for a range of issues affecting their academic progress and wellbeing. The Assistant Principal, Student Support & Enrichment Officer and Student Support Administrator can be contacted at johns.studentsupport@durham.ac.uk during office hours for support queries.
Reception staff and Resident Tutors provide frontline services and out of hours support for emergencies, escalating to the College Officer on duty as appropriate. The College Chaplain offers a listening ear to all, while the student-led undergraduate (SJCR) and postgraduate (MCR) common rooms provide peer support. Together our different teams offer support and advice when things are tough, and seek to foster a positive environment where we can learn and grow together as individuals and as a community.
Full details on all central support services offered by Durham University can be accessed here, for example the Counselling and Mental Health Service.
