Our small but thriving postgraduate community is embodied in the Middle Common Room which offers plenty of opportunities to get involved in college life. Our dedicated Postgraduate Study Centre offers a living room, computer/study room, and a kitchen and is a popular place for all St John’s postgrads to study, relax and socialise. We take your wellbeing seriously and have a dedicated student support team, as well as Resident Tutors who live on site.
St John’s academic life is different from most other Durham colleges in that we have some College-based academic staff, through Cranmer Hall, a theological college training future church leaders, and through research projects such as ECLAS. In addition, we have academic College Fellows and Resident Tutors who offer academic support sessions.
Postgraduates are invited to participate in the academic life of the college through for example sharing their research with the John’s community in informal seminars. We also offer scholarships and bursaries to support postgrads attending academic conferences and carrying out fieldwork. We also run online projects and events, allowing members to participate in college life from afar.
International & Postgraduate Formal Dinner – Friday, 27 September, 6:00 pm.
All new international and new postgraduate students will be invited to this complimentary College formal, starting with a drinks reception, followed by a three course meal.
This event offers a special opportunity to get to know other new students and College staff over good food – try book your tickets so that you are here for it! Invitations and details for sign-up will be emailed to new students at the end of August. If you wonder what a formal is, check out this blog post by Clarissa.
