Our Values
Stephenson College has five core values that form the basis of everything we do as a College. Our ethos is based on a culture of respect. Respect for ourselves, for others, the College and University. Students and staff together, explored what being a part of the Stephenson community means and agreed the values that we believe all members of our College community should uphold.
As a College we embrace:
Curiosity - always asking questions, being interested and never stopping learning. When our curiosity is triggered, we think more deeply and rationally about decisions and come up with more-creative solutions. By asking questions, we promote more meaningful connections.
Responsibility - for our decisions, actions and behaviour. Creating the future we want requires us to accept responsibilities outside of our comfort zones. Being responsible to ourselves by respecting our own choices, behaviours, actions and bodies, and affording others the same thoughtfulness.
Kindness - we aim to be friendly, generous and considerate, not only when it’s easy to be kind, but when it’s hard to be. As individuals and as a community, we want to be a force for good, using our time, talents, and resources to improve our own lives, the lives of others as well as the wider community.
Inclusion - we all share in the responsibility to create a positive culture that safeguards equity, inclusion, dignity, and appreciates diversity, and welcoming all cultures. We respect and seek out inclusion of differences, realising we can learn from each other.
Courage - in finding the strength, perseverance and self-discipline to meet challenges and do the right thing. Courage allows us to move through our fears, to make hard choices and take specific actions that we know will be difficult, challenging, and at times painful. Embracing the energy and power of the heart to move through fear is the core of courage as a value.
