Events at Stephenson College

Dinners  

Even though we’re a self-catered college, Stephenson makes every opportunity to come together and dine as a community. 

Connections Dinners are informal sector-themed dinners which provide students with a great opportunity to discuss your interests and potential future career paths with someone who works in the field. Sitting on a table with other students and a guest speaker, it's a great way to meet subject matter experts as well as fellow students interested in connecting with like-minded people, all over a delicious two course meal!

Locomotion Dinners are two-course experience dinners with a cultural theme, such as Burns Night! 

Formal Dinners are larger, grander events which take place several times a term and are followed by post-dinner entertainment. The annual Honours Formal is a key event in the calendar, celebrating contribution to the College community and student success across sport, societies, volunteering and the performing arts. 

All our dinner evenings really reflect out diverse community.  Whether it’s an International Women's Day dinner or a festival such as Diwali, they are crammed with celebration and energy and showcase the talents of our community through live music and theatre performances.  

We also have special events, like the Winter and Summer Balls, usually at a local venue.  They consist of a formal meal followed by live music and DJs and other entertainment late into the night.  

Charity Fashion Show

Our annual Stephenson College Charity Fashion Show is always a huge success, raising thousands of pounds for worthwhile causes. The SCCFS exec and models worked tirelessly to deliver a brilliant showcase of sustainable fashion from a range of up-and-coming designers, with many independent brands featured on the catwalk!

College Day

The year would not be complete without "Stevo Day", a post exam, fun packed day for the whole College community to de-stress and enjoy a college fair and festival. Many of our College clubs and societies such as Cheerleading society, Stephenson Jazz Band and the Rocket Theatre Company provide performances throughout the day to celebrate another fantastic year at Stephenson.

  
Pride 

The College community comes together to celebrate Pride with a wonderful event to celebrate our LGBTQ+ community. Last Opening with a parade around the Mound and some moving speeches, students enjoy a fun evening of music and karaoke in Stephenson Central. The event also raises money for LGBTQ+ charities, with hundreds of pounds raised for the Albert Kennedy Trust, which supports LGBTQ+ young people aged 16-25 in the UK who are facing or experiencing homelessness or living in a hostile environment.

George Stephenson Birthday BBQ

Staff, students and friends of College come together each year on 9 June for our annual George Stephenson Birthday BBQ, enjoying a delicious BBQ in honour of our namesake!

Winter and Summer Ball

The JCR holds a Winter and Summer Ball every year. Last year the Winter Ball was held at the beautiful Beamish Hall Hotel, with 400 students celebrating the end of term over a three-course meal. As always, entertainment ran throughout the evening, with dancers, live bands and of course a DJ and dancefloor!

The JCR Summer Ball was just as successful, held at Hardwick Hall on a beautiful sunny June evening. Attendees celebrated the end of the year in a fabulous ballroom, having fun on the fairground rides and dancing the night away!
