A Busy Summer for Women's Lacrosse

Two current Durham Women's Lacrosse players Ella Malik and Minty Loxton-Barnard, along with recent graduates Cece Green and Lucy Devine, took part in The Fly this summer. The Fly is a 6-a-side tournament held at Lilleshall National Sports Centre, with players competing from sports across many Great British teams. The annual tournament focuses on the new 6-a-side style of lacrosse, with anticipation of featuring the revamped sport in future Olympics. Cece and Ella captained their respective teams, whilst all Durham players gained a spot on the All-Stars team, featuring the top 12 players for the tournament. 

As part of an U23 England Lacrosse Tour, a handful of female athletes from Team Durham travelled to Towson in the USA to compete in the World Cup Festival; coinciding with the Lacrosse World Cup Competition. The players competed against other nations including Australia, Israel, Italy, and Scotland. With two England teams competing, Durham's players were split to represent the Lions and the Roses. The England Lions brought home the gold against Australia in the final, whilst the England Roses secured the bronze. 

On the coach development side, current student Eleanor Williams has been working incredibly hard towards her level-two coaching qualification, coaching both the Rainbow Rexes and Chiswick Lacrosse Club. Eleanor has also teamed up with Advanced Lacrosse to plan and organise the first ever UK Goalie Camp, to ensure goalies across the country can access great coaching and improve their skills. Alongside coaching, Eleanor has started the season again with the Welsh lacrosse team and will continue to train through the summer before her return to Durham for the academic year 2022-2023.
