This time last week our Women's Lacrosse team were preparing to travel down to Nottingham to play against the senior England team to help them prepare for the Lacrosse World Cup next summer.
Following a 15-2 win against Birmingham in their Wednesday BUCS fixture a few days before, Durham were well prepared going into the game. With a final score of 9-7 to England and a stand out performance from first-year goalkeeper Eleanor Williams, the squad can be pleased with what they delivered.
Head of Lacrosse, Dave Coldwell said, "The International friendlies we play each year against England and other home nations provide a great experience for the team. It is fantastic preparation for our top BUCS matches and our quest for a National Championship.
It was also a proud moment for Durham Lacrosse as the England squad featured 8 alums. Durham's current squad boasts 7 England U23s and one senior Wales squad member, clearly demonstrating the strength of women's lacrosse at the university."
It was an extremely tough match as we were down 6-1 after the first quarter. The determination and resilience we showed to fight back demonstrates how well we can play. Our performance against England certainly raised the bar for the rest of this season."

*The 2022 Women's World Cup is scheduled to take place in Baltimore, Maryland from 29th June - 9th July. England are the current bronze medalists from the 2017 World Cup and ranked 3rd in the world.
Durham will now focus on their BUCS season before they play in January against 5th ranked Scotland.
