Shura Poppe quickly made her debut at the University of Stirling Open's last weekend, clearing up 5/5 wins over 3 days of competitive tennis.
On Friday the 17th of February, the Durham University Lawn Tennis Club Women's number one seed, Shura Poppe (Psychology Student), travelled up North, to brace Scotland in the University of Stirling Open. As an international player without British ranking points, Shura was unseeded in the draw, playing a preliminary round before meeting any of the major seeds.
Cruising through her first match 6-3 6-3, Shura met the ninth seed in round 2, coming out on top from a third set tiebreak with a score of 7-6(4) 3-6 10-4. Executing a quick 6-4 6-0 win in the quarters against Stirling University's number 1 seed, Shura progressed to the semis. Another straight-set win, 7-5 7-5, saw Shura through to the final, where she cleaned up against the sixth seed with an impressive score line of 6-1 6-2 to secure the title. 3 days, 5 matches, 5 wins!
