The department is committed to producing an environment in which bullying and harassment are not tolerated and people feel comfortable and supported to report any bullying or harassing behaviour.

Bullying and harassment means any unwanted behaviour that makes someone feel intimidated, degraded, humiliated or offended. It is not necessarily always obvious or apparent to others.

Bullying or harassment can be between two individuals or it may involve groups of people. It might be obvious or it might be insidious. It may be persistent or an isolated incident. It can also occur in written communications, by phone or through email, not just face-to-face.

Under the Equality Act 2010, harassment is unwanted conduct which is related to one of the following: age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation and is therefore unlawful.

It is important to note that you can make a complaint about harassment even if you are not the target of the behaviour.

The University also has a harassment contact network. These are people training in listening, who you can speak to confidentially before deciding what action you would like to take.

Members of the EDI have also received some training in listening and signposting, and you can contact us if you would like to speak confidentially about behaviour that is affecting you.

Sexual Violence
