Charlotte Margetson - Matriculated in October 2022
I matriculated in 2022 and was recently offered an interview with two different companies. In October, was told that I had been successful in being awarded a QUEST Undergraduate Scholarship sponsored by WS\p, one of the world’s leading global engineering professional services firms.
This scholarship involves me undertaking 8 weeks work placement with WSP throughout my summers at university, writing an annual report to the Institute of Civil Engineering (ICE) and helping with regional activities to promote civil engineering and the scholarship, with the aim of becoming a graduate employee at WSP after my time at university.
I was recently invited to a celebration of QUEST and scholars launch event at ICE’s historic HQ in London. This was a really interesting and informative amazing event which gave me the chance to network and meet other scholars in the same position as me, and hear from graduates already having gone through the programme. During the day, we participated in a number of round table discussions about the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, including the obstacles faced by them, and any ideas we had that could make a change. It was a great chance to share our views on this important topic and to discuss how engineering could help find solutions.
We were also given a grand tour of the impressive HQ which was, as I hope you can see from the photos I have attached, really amazing to see.
This scholarship is something I would really encourage any prospective undergraduate with a passion for civil engineering to apply for.
The Queen’s Jubilee Scholarship Trust (QUEST) was set up to encourage young people to pursue careers in civil engineering. They offer a number of scholarships for students, graduates and professionals. Having applied for the QUEST Undergraduate Scholarship in April before starting at Durham University, I was informed in June that my application had been selected to go forward to the next stage of the scholarship programme. This next stage involved QUEST sponsor companies reviewing all applications received and selecting candidates to interview during an interview week in September. I was offered an interview with two different companies and in October, was told that I had been successful in being awarded a QUEST Undergraduate Scholarship sponsored by WS\p, one of the world’s leading global engineering professional services firms.
