Histories of Scottish Politics in the Age of Union, c.1700-1945

Registration is now open for the conference Histories of Scottish Politics in the Age of Union, c.1700-1945, taking place at Durham University, Tuesday-Wednesday 23-24 July 2024.

This conference will be the first event dedicated to exploring the political, and its meanings, in modern Scotland. It features 40 paper presentations across parallel streams, examining a broad range of topics and drawing on diverse sources and methodologies. A keynote and a roundtable will debate the state of Scottish historical studies and of political history.
The conference is organised by Dr Naomi Lloyd-Jones and is supported by British Agricultural History Society, the Centre for Nineteenth-Century Studies, Durham’s History Department, the History of Parliament Trust, the Leverhulme Trust, the Past & Present Society and the Scottish Historical Review Trust. Registration closes on Thursday 4 July for in-person attendance, and on Thursday 18 July for online attendance.
Preceding the conference on Monday 22 July is a workshop with Edinburgh University Press, on publishing in academic journals. Chris Grieves, Senior Development Editor, will discuss article writing, peer reviewing and choosing a journal, and host a Q&A section with Naomi, who is co-editor of the Scottish Historical Review. Both the conference and workshop are hybrid and free to attend, but booking is essential.
