The Hong Kong Chapter of the Durham Law School Alumni Association

Welcome to the website of the Hong Kong Chapter of the Durham Law School Alumni Association (the “Association”).  Here you will find information about the aims of the Hong Kong Chapter, eligibility for membership, how to become a member of the Hong Kong Chapter, how the Hong Kong Chapter is governed and the benefits of membership.

About us

On 11th November, 2025, the Vice-Chancellor and Warden of the University, Professor Karen O’Brien, announced, in Hong Kong, the establishment of the Hong Kong Chapter, the first of the Association’s local chapters. Durham alumnus, the Honourable Mr. Justice Andrew Macrae VP, is one of the 5 Founder Members of the Hong Kong Chapter. He has kindly agreed to be the first President of the Hong Kong Chapter.  He is joined by fellow alumni and Founder Members of the Hong Kong Chapter, Stephen Weatherseed, Robin Egerton, Kapil Kirpalani and Cordelia Yeung.

Our Aims

The purpose of the Hong Kong Chapter is to promote the aims of the Association amongst Members of the Association who become members of the Hong Kong Chapter (and also to prospective members of the Hong Kong Chapter).

You can find out more about the aims of the Association here.

The activities of the Hong Kong Chapter exclude the carrying out of any Political Activity as defined in the Association’s Constitution:

The Hong Kong Chapter is required, in the conduct of its activities, to adopt the position of political neutrality.

The Hong Kong Chapter is established under the Association’s local Chapter Rules here. The Hong Kong Chapter’s Establishing Members are Kapil Kirpalani and Cordelia Yeung.

Governance of the Hong Kong Chapter

The governance of the Hong Kong Chapter lies with its Organising Committee, established and regulated in accordance with the terms of the Hong Kong Chapter Establishing Agreement and the Local Chapter Rules here.
