Durham Law School Pro Bono

Durham Law School’s Pro Bono team has successfully raised £1,120 (and counting) for two leading legal charities, LawWorks and Advocate, through participation in the Law School Challenge. This marks the first year that Durham Law School has taken part in national student pro bono fundraising, making this achievement even more significant.

The Law School Challenge is an annual competition that sees law students across the country raising funds to support access to justice. LawWorks and Advocate provide free legal assistance to those who cannot afford representation.

Founder and Team Captain Mamatha Shastri hopes that more students will get involved in this newly established avenue in the coming future.

She writes, “Supporting access to justice is not only an academic concern but a professional duty that all law students should embrace as we prepare for our legal careers. I am happy to have played a part in encouraging student involvement in pro bono and look forward to growing the team next year.”

In the coming academic year, DLS Pro Bono aims to build on their success and raise even more funds for this vital cause. The team’s goal is also to win the Challenge by topping the leaderboard against other law school teams and be invited to the House of Lords for the Attorney General’s Student Pro Bono Awards.

We look forward to seeing Durham Law School’s impact in pro bono fundraising flourish years to come.
