Congratulations and Welcome to Liberal Arts

Welcome to Liberal Arts!

Bringing together Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, and Business, our innovative degree programme allows you to pursue your unique interests across multiple subjects, culminating in an independent research project in your final year.

Along the way, we also offer many enticing opportunities for work placements and study abroad. We look forward to meeting you soon and to helping you chart your course through the world-class opportunities available here at Durham!

Welcome to the Liberal Arts programme. As course reps and members of the Liberal Arts Student Voice Committee (SVC), we meet to discuss matters relating to the programme. It is a rewarding opportunity to be involved in discussion and development of the programme by gathering student feedback and presenting it to the committee. If you are interested in becoming a course rep, please contact liberal.arts@durham.ac.uk when you arrive in Durham this October.

The Liberal Arts Department works out of the Arts and Humanities Faculty Office in Elvet Riverside 2, and are happy to arrange video appointments, via Teams, for any incoming students who have any questions about the programme in general. These appointments have proved particularly useful for those would like help with picking modules which both suit their interests and aligns with the ethos of Liberal Arts.

Your first week in Durham – University Induction Week Events Timetable

The Timetable has been designed so College events don’t clash with any of your academic departmental events, but offer you lots of opportunities to meet your fellow Freshers, find your way around and settle into student life.

To help you keep track of where you need to be, and what you need to do during your first busy days at university, in your College and your Department, we have created a day-by-day University Induction Planner. This should help you to plan your schedule, so you don't miss anything - from being issued with your Campus Card or meeting the staff in your Department, to trying out for a sports team or joining a student society.
