At Durham we focus on you. We are energised teachers, who love our subject and want to share that passion with you. We don’t just teach you, we encourage you to work with us on new ideas so that together we can make new discoveries about human behaviour.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
Here at Durham, the Department of Psychology is committed to creating and celebrating an environment that has equality, diversity and inclusion at its core. We passionately believe the best Psychological Science must draw on the unique and distinctive talents of all people. We believe by harnessing the power of diversity we can enable, empower and energise our staff and students, and in so doing realise the potential psychology holds to make a real difference to peoples’ lives.
The Athena SWAN Charter was introduced in 2005 to advance the representation of women in science, engineering and technology and to address gender inequalities and improve career progression for female academics. The Athena SWAN awards recognise and celebrate good practice in recruiting, retaining and promoting women. The charter now recognises work undertaken to address gender equality more broadly, and not just barriers to progression that affect women.
The Department of Psychology is incredibly proud to have received, in 2013, and retained, in 2017 and 2022, the prestigious Athena SWAN Silver Award for its outstanding progress in promoting gender equality and addressing the unequal representation of women in science. This award highlights our unwavering commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
