Specialist Training and Employability 

We have an outstanding track record of supporting our postgraduate students to thrive in their chosen careers. Our PhD students have graduated into a range of UK and internationally based roles, including academic, policy and governance, and industry-based positions. Our Masters by Research programme provides a springboard for students to secure PhD scholarships, or to employment within industry, sport management, or public health. All members of our Graduate Programmes are offered:

• Access to Durham’s award-winning Researcher Development Programme;
• Specialised skills and methods training (e.g., data visualisation, project management);
• Focused academic career support (e.g., writing for publication);
• Specialised scholarship and/or fellowships application support;
• Opportunities for embedded research placements with funders and research users;
• One-to-one support from career support professionals; and
• Future Career Insight sessions and workshops focused on non-academic roles.
