When you are gone, may your light keep shining on. Students of Russian present an evening of traditional music performances and readings of Russian literature, and invite you to join them.
Russian Literary & Music Evening
The theme for this evening comes from the Russian phrase уходя, оставьте свет (pronounced "ukhodia, ostav'tie sviet"), which we have translated as 'when you are gone, may your light keep shining on'. We believe that it encourages personal reflection and expressions of gratitude towards friends and loved ones, as well as a feeling of hopefulness for the future. Each piece performed during this musical and literary evening was carefully chosen to reflect this theme, as well as demonstrate our true love and appreciation of the Russian language and culture.
The Programme for the evening includes:
Mila Svetlova-Skripka, 'When you are gone, may your light keep shining on'. Lauley Exton
Alexey Apoukhtin, 'O, do not grieve!' Music by Sergei Rachmaninoff. Beth Rogers. Accompaniment by Tom Klafkowski
Mikhail Lermontov, 'Alone, I walk onto the road'. Ben James-Phillips.
Ivan Turgenev, 'Misty Morning'. Music by Erast Abaza. Oliver Woods. Accompaniment by Tom Klafkowski
