Joseph Amankwah-Amoah Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences

Professor Joseph Amankwah-Amoah has been elected a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, one of the highest recognitions for social scientists in the UK.

Recognition for international business research 

Joseph Amankwah-Amoah, Professor of International Business at our Business School, has been elected a Fellow of the Academy as part of its spring 2026 Fellowship round.

The Fellowship recognises leading academics, practitioners and policy experts who have made substantial contributions to social science and its wider public benefit.  

Fellows are selected through an independent peer review process recognising excellence in research, professional impact and wider contributions beyond academia.

Spring 2026 fellowship cohort 

The spring 2026 cohort includes 74 new Fellows from 39 organisations across the UK and internationally, spanning disciplines such as economics, sociology, politics, education and international business.  

Their research addresses a wide range of global issues, including climate change adaptation, food inequality and ethical questions in peace and security. 

Promoting the value of social science

Founded to champion the role of social science in public life, the Academy of Social Sciences promotes the value of research in shaping policy, supporting businesses and improving lives.  

Professor Amankwah-Amoah’s election reflects his internationally recognised research in international business and strategy. His work examines the causes and consequences of business failure in emerging economies. 

The accolade reinforces the strength of social science scholarship at Durham University.
