The University is one of three founding partners in Durham’s City of Culture 2025 bid, with Durham County Council and Culture Durham. The theme of this year’s Deaf Awareness Week (2 to 8 May) focuses on inclusion deafness and highlights the impact of hearing loss on everyday life. Research from within our top-rated History Department examines deafness and hardness of hearing from people’s experiences in 18th century salons and academies, to the relationship between modern technologies and hearing loss in the present day.

With a project spanning three years, Durham became the largest All-Steinway school in the nation in April. In the enviable position of having 61 Steinways throughout the University in both its Music Department and Colleges, all students, regardless of music experience, will be able to enjoy music at its finest, with these wonderful, world-class instruments.
