The IAS is delighted to share the wonderful news that the Director of the Institute, Professor Alex Easton, has been elected as the next president of the European Brain and Behaviour Society (EBBS).
Alex has led the IAS since 2021 and under his leadership has taken the Institute from strength to strength, engaging more widely across the University, and establishing new research collaborations beyond the UK.
Alex is also a member of the University's department of Psychology and his pioneering research specialises in behavioural neuroscience. He has has been a member of the society for 20 years and currently serves as its secretary.
From July 2025, he will become the EBBS’s president after being nominated by the current president and previous president, and elected by the membership of the society.
In the role, Alex will continue to work on the society’s key objectives that bring together researchers across Europe to discuss their work on the brain mechanisms of behaviour.
He will also play an active role in the society’s biennial General Meeting in France in June next year.
Having been founded in 1968, the EBBS is the oldest society in the world focused on the interrelationship between brain and behaviour and is a founding member of the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS).
It currently has over 950 members and funds travel awards to young researchers as well as conference support grants and awards for mid-career scientists, and those that have promoted or supported diversity within the field.
