The IAS has opened recruitment for a new round of Addison Wheeler Fellowships, a prestigious scheme funded by a University bequest and designed to support early career researchers of outstanding promise. The fellowships provide an opportunity to undertake an ambitious programme of original research in a supportive and intellectually vibrant environment. Up to six Fellowships are available.
The scheme is open to applicants of any nationality and across all academic disciplines. Each fellowship is tenable for 36 months and will commence on 1 October 2026.
Agreement
Prospective applicants must first secure the agreement of a Durham academic department or school to host them, along with the support of an academic mentor within that unit. Applicants are expected to provide a curriculum vitae and a detailed outline of their proposed research project, which departments will assess before deciding whether to support a full application. Successful candidates at this stage will then be invited to apply through the Durham University online application system. Further details and application deadline
The Addison Wheeler Fellowships are highly competitive and attract strong international interest. Interviews will be conducted online in early June 2026
The closing date for all applications and supporting documentation is midnight on 26 March 2026. Full and further details, including eligibility criteria and application guidance, are available in the Further Particulars document on the Durham University website.
