The al-Sabah Programme will enable cutting-edge research to identify those factors that can lead to insecurity within a country or region, anticipate when aggression between or within states may occur, and identify and learn how external powers and bodies as the United Nations should respond appropriately. Governments require their decision-makers, whether politicians, diplomats, senior civil servants, members of their armed forces and other persons of influence within larger private companies and organisations, to be aware of such risk factors to ensure appropriate decisions are being taken, at a high level – before, and of course also during a crisis.

Research into such matters within the Programme will support international endeavours to manage crises expeditiously and effectively. In seeking to highlight the causes and processes of insecurity, it is anticipated that the Programme’s activities and outputs can benefit and influence the work of states and non-governmental actors alike navigating the complexities of the current international system. Ultimately, it is hoped that the Programme will have an important, dynamic and lasting effect on decision making with respect to governance and the security of nations worldwide.

New Engagement and Partnership Initiative

The al-Sabah Programme is delighted to announce the launch of a new project, BRI Dialogues, in partnership with 3Sixty Strategic Advisors, for a deep dive into the changing nature of the international system, analysis of the growing global role of East Asia, and a fuller understanding of the role of China and the Belt & Road Initiative (BRI) as the linchpin of the emerging order.
