BSI Fellowship Writing Support

Researchers in discussion around table

Our Fellowship support activities include Fellowship Writing Workshops, a Writing Room, Mentorship Matching as well as information sessions aimed at specific topics requested by participants.

Fellowship Writing Workshop

This event is specifically targeted towards PhD students and PDRAs.

This session follows-on from the very popular in-person fellowship application info-session, held in February. This session is for those who are preparing to submit a fellowship application, are thinking about a possible future application, or haven’t really thought about fellowship applications, but would like to have some initial experience grant writing.

The workshop will involve a brief presentation on grant writing, and specifically fellowship writing, followed by a writing/ brainstorming exercise during the workshop. You will receive active feedback from panel members present. It will be led by Aakash Basu and Liz Morris (Biosciences) who will give hands-on advice to attendees.

  • Please bring along any existing drafts, or ideas for fellowships you are working on
  • Please send any questions about the session to aakash.basu@durham.ac.uk

Fellowship Mentorship Matchmaking

Our Fellowship mentorship matchmaking programme aims to link people writing Fellowships with mentors who can help them to navigate this process.  After matching with a partner, the informal mentorship meetings will take place over a 6 month period, covering the Fellowship application process. Each pair will be given coffee vouchers for their mentorship sessions, which can be held in whichever format and frequency is most appropriate. At the end of the six-month period we will ask the pairs to complete a short anonymous form to track the impact of the mentorship.
