Travel and Training Bursaries

This funding scheme provides bursaries to attend conferences, and take part in training (placements, visits or courses). Two categories of Travel and Training Bursaries are available:

Early Career Research Bursaries 

These bursaries are for Researchers at Durham from undergraduates through to PDRAs and Fellows. The ECR Executive Board will assess applications according to the criteria listed on the form. The maximum funding awarded for these bursaries is £250.

Staff Travel and Training Bursaries

These bursaries are for permanent members of Durham staff at all levels. The BSI Executive Board will assess applications according to the criteria listed on the form. The maximum funding awarded for these bursaries is also £250.

Travel and Training Bursary Application Form 2024

Applications are accepted for proposals that fulfil the following criteria:

• Funding is for conferences or training programmes (other proposals can also be submitted through the Flexible Funding scheme)
• Research fitting the remit of the BSI i.e. fundamental, interdisciplinary research at the boundaries between biosciences and the other physical sciences (including mathematics, computer science and engineering).

Further details

We ask recipients of Travel and Training Bursaries to acknowledge the support of the BSI in reports or in any outputs produced. We also ask for a short report during the project and after it has been completed.
