Ecclesiology and Ethnography Durham Conference
This annual conference brings together scholars working on ethnographic approaches to theology and the study of religion. Past papers have included ethnography, anthropology, systematic theology, ecclesiology, practical theology, and social science approaches. The Conference is run in association with The Department of Theology and Religion and St John’s College, Durham.
Ecclesiology and Ethnography North America Conference
The Ecclesiology and Ethnography North America Conference was first held at Princeton in 2023. The conference is intimate and dynamic, fostering creative conversations across diverse specialisms and learning at the intersection of qualitative research, theology, and the world church. The conference prioritizes the work of doctoral students and early career scholars.
Ecclesial Practices Unit, American Academy of Religion
Ecclesial Practices provides a collaborative space at the intersection of ethnographic and other qualitative approaches and theological approaches to the study of ecclesial practices. This might include churches, other (new, emerging, para-church, and virtual) communities, and lived faith in daily life. International in scope, the unit encourages research contributing to a deeper understanding of “church in practice” in a global context, including decolonization and postcolonial theologies.
