Vision and Activities

CERES is a strategically important research centre in seeking to overcome the constraints of conventional disciplinary boundaries, promoting instead a more integrative and collaborative approach to its area of study. Colleagues in Classics and Ancient History currently collaborate informally with peers in English, Education, Archaeology, History, DCAD and MLAC, but these connections are supercharged by the research environment of CERES, which nurtures and grows existing partnerships. CERES adds value by bringing together research expertise from within Durham University and beyond, with the intention that this will generate new and intellectually ambitious research projects. The cross-disciplinary and collaborative emphases align well with Durham University’s Transformative Humanities initiative.
