IBRU: Durham University’s Centre for Borders Research has released updates to its Arctic map series to reflect changes in the Russian and USA extended continental shelves in the Central Arctic Ocean.

IBRU, Durham University’s Centre for Borders Research, has awarded its sixth annual Raymond Milefsky Award to Macedonian borders expert Mile Milenkoski.

IBRU: Durham University’s Centre for Borders Research has updated its Arctic Maps Series to reflect the 6 February 2023 recommendations made by the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf (CLCS) on Russia’s extended continental shelf, as well as the revised submission that Russia filed on 14 February 2023 in response to the CLCS recommendations.

IBRU: Durham University’s Centre for Borders Research has updated its Arctic Maps Series to reflect the addendum that Canada filed with the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf (CLCS) on 22 December 2022. This addendum added 241,000 square nautical miles (827,000 square kilometres) to the area identified by Canada as part of its extended continental shelf (ECS), bringing the total area of Canada’s submission to 593,000 square nautical miles (2,036,000 square kilometres).

A ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) has addressed a dispute between Nicaragua and Colombia over maritime borders which has lasted for many decades.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has announced it will stop negotiations with Japan on a peace treaty to officially end a conflict dating back to World War II involving the disputed Kuril Islands. India and China have engaged in a 15th round of talks to try and find a resolution to their ongoing border dispute.

Kenya has started the demarcation of its boundary with Uganda. The Kenya-Uganda border runs from Lake Victoria, to the mouth of the Sio River in Busia, and on to Amudat and Moroto in Karamoja though the Turkana Escarpment to Mt. Zulia near the Kenya-Uganda -South Sudan tri-junction.

IBRU, Durham University’s Centre for Borders Research, has awarded its fourth annual Raymond Milefsky Award to a pair of non-governmental organisations devoted to conservation and development across disputed Belizean-Guatemalan borderlands. The award is being made to the Belizean non-governmental organisation Friends for Conservation and Development (FCD) and its Guatemalan counterpart Asociación Balam.
