The NERD is co-organised by the Centre for Institutions and Political Behavior at Durham University and School of Geography, Politics, and Sociology at Newcastle University.
We meet 3-4 times during term time to discuss working papers, research projects, grant proposals, and PhD dissertation chapters. The format is focused on the draft documents circulated in advance and the session is focused on a discussion of how to strengthen the work, in terms of framing, research design and analysis. The NERD convener for 2022-23 is Dr Anouk Rigterink, Durham University.
Speakers from around the world join us to advance and disseminate knowledge of political phenomena. The Speaker Series is an important element of our strategy to build the international reputation of the Centre and contribute to the School’s research culture.
There are two formats in the Speaker Series, a traditional presentation followed by Q&A and an innovative flipped workshop format where one of our colleagues who has suggested the speaker presents some work in progress, followed by our external speaker presenting their work. Each talk will be followed by comments from a discussant and a constructive feedback session aiming to help the speakers progress their projects. The Speaker Series convener for 2022-23 is Juraj Medzihorsky, Durham University.
Events were CIPB members are presenting their research or participating on round-tables to discuss current affairs linked to their expertise.
