Opportunities To Work With LAMP

Take the opportunity to join a group of researchers with a shared interest in the way we learn and remember.

LAMP is always keen to hear from people who share our interest in understanding the way in which we learn and remember. There are opportunities across Durham and Newcastle for you to join us either as an undergraduate exploring this area of research for the first time, a student looking to complete a PhD in any area relating to the mechanisms of learning and memory, someone looking to join the Centre as a postdoctoral researcher or to join the large group of principle investigators and continue to expand the Centre.

Please select the pathway that best describes you and follow the link to find out about ways you might be able to join us.

All members of the centre are very happy to be contacted directly about opportunities to support fellowship or studentship applications or you can direct emails directly to lamp.centre@durham.ac.uk and we will get back to you and help point you in the right direction.

Undergraduate work

We always welcome enthusiastic undergraduates to work with us, whether you are studying at Durham or elsewhere and looking for some experience during term time or an internship over the summer. Individual members of the Centre can be contacted directly or you can direct a general enquiry to lamp.centre@durham.ac.uk

For longer (e.g. summer vacation) work there are a number of potential sources of funding and centre members may be able to guide you. Again, please contact members of staff directly to enquire about whether they would be able to support a project under one of these schemes.

Postgraduate research

All members of the centre welcome applications for students wishing to carry out postgraduate research as an MSc or as a PhD.

You can direct a general enquiry to lamp.centre@durham.ac.uk and we will point you towards potential supervisors, or you can contact members directly where you are interested in working with them.

Postgraduate research can be carried out either over one year (as an MSc by Research) or three years (as a PhD), and these degrees are offered by both Durham and Newcastle Universities.

In addition to research degrees, Durham offers taught postgraduate courses in Cognitive Neuroscience and in Developmental Psychopathology, and members of the centre supervise MSc dissertation projects on these courses.

Applicants for research degrees are welcome to apply at any time, though some funding sources have deadlines relatively early in the academic year. It is always best to discuss your interests with a potential supervisor as early as possible to maximise the potential funding routes available.

Postdoctoral fellowships and Visiting Academics

We are always interested in new members who wish to join the centre.

In addition, we welcome Visiting Academics to the LAMP Centre who may wish to visit us whilst on sabbatical, and enquiries from researchers who may wish to base themselves in our Department for the period of a funded Fellowship.

In the first instance for both visiting academics and postdoctoral fellowships you will need an academic sponsor which should be a member of staff from the Centre. You can contact members directly, or get in touch vialamp.centre@durham.ac.uk with details of your interests and we will point you towards potential academic links.

Anyone interested in applying for a Fellowship with the Centre should contact an academic sponsor well in advance of the closing deadline, normally a minimum of two months ahead as internal selection of candidates may apply.
