Biography
Arjmand Khaliq is a PhD Student in Electrical Engineering (power system and renewable energy) in the Engineering Department at Durham University. Her PhD study is fully funded by Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK. She received her B.Sc. (Hons) electrical engineering in 2012 and MSc electrical engineering (power systems) in 2016 from University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore Pakistan. She has also served as lecturer at UET for seven years.
Research Project
The main aim of my PhD project is to perform advanced research on voltage and power quality, and reactive power control in a grid connected PV power system. The project aims to conduct novel approaches to improve voltage and power quality, and reactive power control of the system. The project includes literature survey, computer simulation and experimental work (where possible).
Energy harvesting from renewable energy resources is weather dependent, and hence to maintain a sustainable voltage and frequency in the power system, power electronic converter with special control strategies are required. Power electronic converters are the key components of a grid connected PV system. Power electronic converters, however, are potential sources of harmonics emission, which have direct impacts on normal operation of the power system components. Therefore, as the demand for PV generation increases, some technical challenges become apparent in the power system, one of which is pertaining to the impact of the power electronic converters on power and voltage quality. Furthermore, aspects and concepts of reactive power and reactive power control is a major challenge for the grid connected PV systems.
