My research at Durham focuses primarily on the interaction between proteins and carbon dioxide (CO2). CO2 has a fundamental role in biological processes throughout the biosphere. While it has a large regulatory role, little is known about its direct interactions with the cell. Therefore, my project aims to build on previous research which used triethyloxonium ions to trap carbamates on proteins enabling their identification by tandem mass spectroscopy. With this new data, computational methods can be applied to better understand the effect that CO2 has on protein binding and function.
