Biography

I am a MScR student studying weathering reactions in glacial sediments, using a glacial sedimentological and microscopic approaches to understand the interplay of weathering reactions that may lead to carbon dioxide release from glacial deposits. My research is leveraging deglaciated sediments from Teesdale, County Durham to act as an analogue for the future thaw and weathering of glacial sediments in the Arctic.

I have a passionate interest in the geochemistry of high latitude environments, as well as environmental remediation, particularly relating to the impact of coal mining. Previously, I have worked on a project mapping coal mining and coke work waste across an ex-coal mining and coke works site in County Durham using stable sulfur isotopes.

Research interests

High latitude geochemistry (glacier and permafrost)

Environmental remediation (e.g. legacy coal mining pollution)

Glacial sedimentology

Stable isotopes (e.g. C, N, S)

Microscopic techniques (e.g. SEM)

Education

2022 - 2025: BSc in Environmental Geoscience, Durham University
