Biography

I completed a BA in Classics at King's College London in 2020, where I was awarded the Handford Classical Prize, H.H. Scullard Award, and the Katie Lentakis Prize. Following a brief period working in primary education, I completed an MSt in Greek and Latin Languages and Literature at Oxford, and began my PhD at Durham in October 2023.

PhD Research Project

My PhD research, funded by the AHRC Northern Bridge Consortium, investigates the role trees and woodwork in the performance and poetics of Greek tragedy. It explores the poetic (mis)representation and thematic significance of trees, wooden objects, and woodwork, and considers what this can reveal about laborious practices, ecological dependencies, and nature-culture interactions. I am also interested in the materiality of ancient theatre, particularly in its heavy use of timver, as well as the arboreal elements embedded into performance culture more broadly, including theatrical ritual.

This project aims to bridge the gap between Classics and the Environmental Humanities by situating tragedy within the long history of human interactions with and representations of the environment.
