Biography

STEM Career returner

After a 12-year break from research, raising my son, and working in Education, I returned to research in 2016 with the help of a Daphne Jackson Trust Fellowship sponsored by the Biochemical Society.

A subsequent 3-year BBSRC research grant, as co-investigator with Prof Keith Lindsey, established the contribution of the Meristem Defective gene, a splicing factor, to root meristem development in Arabidopsis.

Following a period as a Teaching Fellow, I became an Assistant Professor in the Education team of the Biosciences Department in 2022.

My current research interests are focused on the impact of Artificial Intelligence on Education and the accessibility of assessment types to diverse groups of Bioscience undergraduates, with a particular interest in the International student cohort.

I am the current Deputy Executive Dean (International) for the Science Faculty, where my focus is the student experience of the International science students.

Research interests

  • My research interests lie in exploring further the role of pre-mRNA splicing in plant genomes to regulate gene expression.
