Biography

Isaac is a PhD student in the Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences and is funded by the Durham Doctoral Studentship. Isaac has been a student of the department since 2018 and has an MSc (by Research) and BA in Sports and Exercise Science.

Research

Isaac's research focuses on exercise metabolism and nutrition within the endurance-based athlete population. The overarching purpose of Isaac's PhD is to understand whether an innovative method (breath acetone detection) in the sport and exercise science setting can indirectly assess carbohydrate availability following the implementation of a specific nutrition and training strategy ('train-low'). Being able to accurately assess carbohydrate is imperative for maximising the health and performance of athletes.
