Biography

Jeffrey Gorman is a Materials Research Fellow at Durham University, where he heads the Excitonics and Photochemistry (ExP) Lab. His research combines synthetic organic chemistry, DNA nanotechnology, and ultrafast spectroscopy to develop quantum sensing materials, with a focus on organic semiconductors assembled on DNA scaffolds.

Jeff obtained his degree in Chemistry from Imperial College London before working at Merck developing solar cell materials. He completed his PhD in Physics at the University of Cambridge with Prof. Sir Richard Friend, investigating the excited state dynamics of molecular semiconductors. As a postdoctoral researcher at MIT, he worked with Prof. Mark Bathe in Biological Engineering, developing methods for the parallel production of over 100 modified oligonucleotides simultaneously. This work enabled precise assembly of organic semiconductors on DNA scaffolds for quantum information applications.

Jeff welcomes inquiries from prospective PhD students and postdoctoral researchers interested in quantum materials, molecular photophysics, DNA nanotechnology, and ultrafast spectroscopy.
