Biography

Kate joined the Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences in October 2024 as Postdoctoral Research Associate working on the funded, award-winning project ‘Moving Social Work’. Working in partnership with Disability Rights UK, Moving Social Work is a co-produced programme of research that aims to embed physical activity advocacy with and for disabled people into the education, training, and routine practice of social work. As part of this, Moving Social Work advances physical activity research on implementation science and knowledge translation, co-production, intersectionality, and multiagency working and integrated care. Kate leads on the intersectionality aspect ensuring that the project fully recognises the multitude of interlocking identities and resultant experiences disabled people and social care workers face.

Prior to taking up her position at Durham University Kate worked as a Research Assistant at Leeds Beckett University (LBU) within the Centre for Sport, Social Justice and Society. During her time working at LBU Kate contributed to funded consultancy projects with World Rugby, England Rugby Football Union, World Triathlon, RFU Injured Players Foundation, Women in Sport, Disability Snowsports UK, UK Sport, UK Coaching and M2. Each of these projects focused on social justice, equity, and inclusion with the overarching intention of improving the experiences of diverse people across the sport and physical activity landscape.

Kate’s PhD at Leeds Beckett University focuses on identifying and challenging the dynamic gender and power relations in Rugby Union spaces. Kate has a MPhil in American History and a BA Hons in History, from the University of Cambridge, both focussing on feminist theory and LGBTQ+ community organising.
