Biography
PhD student
I have graduated with a BSc in Biomedical sciences and an MRes in Ageing and Health, both from Newcastle University. I am currently undertaking a PhD in Biosciences in collobaration with Proctor & Gamble (P&G) as part of the BISCOP CTP programme. My research is looking at how Type 1 collagen is trafficked and transported around cells and how this changes with age. I have used a variety of techniques to investigate what happens to key quality control and chaperone proteins if they are inhibited with pharmacologically available inhibitors. Specifically I have looked at PDI, Hs47 and Ero1a, by inhibting with 16F16, Col003 and EN460.
I have also completed a 2 month industrial placement at P&G in Mason where I was able to explore the link between science and consumer product development. I worked in collaboration with the Beauty Technical Division team, and was also able to meet and work with teams from the Prodcuct Relations, Marketing and Consumer Functions teams.
