Staff profile

I am a second year PhD student in the Department of Sociology. I joined the department in 2016 to complete my BA in Sociology. Alongside my degree, I was awarded the Undergraduate Research Internship funding by Collingwood College, where I researched the extent to which Restorative Justice has become embedded in youth justice policy with Dr Hannah King and Professor Roger Smith. After taking a year out of education after graduating, I returned to the department in 2020 to complete my MA in Social Research Methods with Sociology, to then complete three years of my doctoral study. 

Research Area

My doctoral research is exploring LGBT+ young people’s transition to adulthood within the context of COVID-19, to understand how the pandemic has had a long-term impact on this biographical process. It seeks to explore what being an adult personally means to LGBT+ young people, to then understand how the pandemic is affecting the transition to achieving those definitions. A longitudinal approach has been adopted to capture the transitional nature of becoming an adult, by studying a cohort of LGBT+ young people for 12 months. Biographical interviews and scrapbooks have been selected as methods to gather this data.
